Detailed terrain piece with extra goodies!
The MB Halo line of battlescapes is a shout out to the large terrain pieces that Mega Bloks was known for in the early millenium. However, this far outclasses earlier terrain pieces. The terrain is very highly detailed and well painted has enough studs to build your own terrain on top of it. Speaking of customisability, the grass patch can be attached in varying positions to form extra land, a bunker or a hill. Very nice. Finally, there are transparent rods to hold up aerial vehicles to give the illusion of flight.
This is a very awesome touch and makes for great display possibilities. However, this system is limited by the fact that more ball joints could have been provided for more dynamic poses and the fact that multiple rods are required to support anything larger than a 400 piece aircraft.
The battlescape can be a bit small for larger vehicles such as tanks. The intention is to buy multiple battlescapes and combine them together to form one massive, single landscape. Unfortunately, these battlescape sets cost slightly more than what they are worth.
Now on to the goodies! The purpose of this set is to compliment and enhance any other sets you may have. If this is your first, then not to worry! The set comes with three figures. A flood combat form (very cool) which can be changed back into a marine (with Halo CE colour scheme), a standard version one elite with a very bizzare yet charming paint scheme that makes him very unique and a Spartan II in a more olive than usual green that leads me to believe that the man is the Master Cheif himself. The three way fight lends to great playability if the set is used as a stand alone and of course the ghost only makes things better.
The ghost comes in a new, crimson purple colour that really bring out the alien exotic in the Covanent. The special pieces used to make it create graceful curves that lead to one beautiful toy. I doubt Mega Bloks can make a better ghost than this. I've had very few toys I'd call perfect. This ghost is Perfect.
Overall, detailed and functional landscape, great figures and my favorite under 100 pieces construction toy build ever. Just a tad too pricey and small.
mainly for troops and jeeps and stuff i really like it though it is a good price for its size and the size is like this big[ ]
Alright for small vehicles, but too small and the terrain too steep for anything larger. A suggestion might be to market a more subtle terrain for the larger vehicles.
I was lucky enough to find one of these at only $29.99 during the Christmas rush, and frankly that's about what the set is worth.
The three-way battle between the Spartan, Elite, and Flood Combat Form Marine is probably more the centerpiece of Battlescape II than the Battlescape itself. There's plenty of opportunity to pose them antagonizing each other between one handheld weapon apiece, the buildable Ghost, and three different altitudes of display rod. I rather like the completely clear construction of the display rods compared to the clear-and-gray of the ones from Battlescape 1, but the presence of only one friction ball joint assembly instead of two limits posing opportunities somewhat.
The proper Battlescape pieces are where the set starts to fall flat, sadly. The small terrain chunk seems to have a far harder time staying affixed to the main plate compared to its BS1 counterpart, and the set at large lacks stickers to put various blinkenlights and features in the large plate's base interior.
VERDICT: If two of the following three apply, go for it:
- you can get it for 80% or less of the MSRP
- you're hard up for a Ghost
- you want an Olive Green Spartan that can easily stand out as your collection's Master Chief, Spartan-1337, etc. and UNSC Cryo Bay isn't available in your area
